"Great cities do more than fix their pipes, pavement and police service. They tap their unique cultural assets to generate wealth and create a place where people aspire to work and live. This approach is essential to success in the new global, urban age."
- Glen Murray, Founder and Senior Advisor, AuthentiCity

What We Do

AuthentiCity works with municipalities in concert with private sector and community coalitions to develop creative economic strategies that integrate economic, environmental and cultural planning. We see this silo-busting approach as a foundation of success for urban regions in the global economy.

Our approach is focused on generating greater "place-based" wealth - in other words, understanding and empowering the systems that drive wealth creation in a city. When properly leveraged, the wealth generated from such things as increased property values can finance much of the needed infrastructure to move a community forward.

Our Approach

In order to drive success, we have built our practice to provide five key elements to city planning:

  • The data and knowledge to identify place-specific opportunities that can provide the capacity to grow real investment and jobs.
  • The strategies, partnerships and actions a local city government can take to deliver tangible projects without depending on federal or provincial contributions to get things started.
  • A successful methodology to identify and secure private, nonprofit and other government's investments.
  • A way to create sustainable districts, investments and projects that build a city's tax base and not its tax burden.
  • The communications savvy to successfully deliver public and media support for risk-taking initiatives.

Our practice is unique in Canada. Our methodology is based on the combined experience of our team, based on their extensive experience in local municipal government, in economic and cultural development, in strategic communications and community engagement.
